For the first time in the history a majority of the world’s population is connected in an accessible, two way medium of communication. Reports between the International Telecommunication Union and BBC stated that “in 2015 about 3.2 billion people, or almost half of the world’s population, would be online. Of them, about 2 billion would be from developing countries, including 89 million from least developed countries” and that “as of June 2018, 55.1% of the world’s population has internet access.” (4) 

The public internet introduced an open source playing field where there is space and potential for every individual to raise their voice. Prior to this, influence and mass media were privately owned vehicles of bought and paid for propaganda with bias, advertising, manipulation and sales incentives. 

This new media brings us together like never before and puts the power in the hands of those that know how to, and take the opportunity to, use it. After over a decade specializing in the discipline of organic online marketing professionally referred to as Inbound (5), I would invite you to imagine the internet as the international marketplace for a ever relevant and operational global barter system, and make the most of it.
